The sub department was founded in 1981, in 2001 it assumed the name of the great Ukrainian poet and interpreter Mykoly Zerova. Since the time of foundation of the department Doctor of Philology, professor, Honoured Scientist and Technician, academician AS HEEU Cherednychenko O.I. heads it.
There are 2 doctors, professors, 14 associate professors, Candidates of science, 9 regular lecturers, 2 scientific co-workers and 15 postgraduate students who work at this sub-department. In the channel of inter-department topic “European languages and cultures in the context of globalization of the world processes” department develops the subtopic “Genre and stylistic peculiarities of translation of the text of different genres”. For the last 5 years 6 theses have been defended, 4 scientific conferences were held by the postgraduate students, doctoral candidates and competitors of the department. The major directions of the researches are: history, theory, critics of the translation; methodic of tuition in translation and interpretation, sociolinguistic aspects of translation.
Department prepares bachelors, specialists and masters on the occupation of “translation” (French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Romanian languages) with specialization: translation or interpreting.
Textbooks and manuals, author programs, which provided by the department, were developed by the professors Getman Z.O., Cherednichenkom O.I., Senior lecturers Andrievskoyu E.M., Vengrenievskuyu M.A., Verboyu G.G., Voevodskoyu V.S., Gnatyukom A.D., Kalustovoyu O.M., Maksymenko O.V., Orlychenko O.V., Pryhodkom M.P., Saenkom S.G., Shyshkovym V.V., lecturers Gerasymenko I.P., Chernienko G.V. and others. Textbooks on theory and practice of translation in French and Spanish, manuals on the contrastive grammar and stylistic, business, fictional translation, foreign languages practices, dictionaries are among them.
Department keeps up scientific connections with higher educational establishments in Ukraine and abroad (Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Serbia and Montenegro, Moldova).
